Piece Walk/Free Zone

This video documents “Piece Walk–Free Zone,” an art walk which pieces together the intricate web of labor that links the Garment District to immigrant enclaves in New York City, and to factories in “Free Zones” around the globe. Based on my research into the history of the garment workers everyday life, and conversations with urban sociologist, Tarry Hum, the art walk asked:

What does it take to make a neighborhood into a working environment that is “healthy” for workers, in an ever-expanding network of labor sites and (often unjust) practices?
